NCERT's Kaushal Bodh & Kaushal Vikas Curriculum
Course structure under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, and benefits for students
Developed under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, these NCERT textbooks introduce Vocational Education as a distinct subject starting from Grade 6, built around the principles of ‘learning by doing’ and ‘dignity of labour’.

The Three Forms of Work
NCF-SE 2023 groups all work into three broad forms, which anchor both curricula:
• Work with Life Forms
• Work with Machines and Materials
• Work in Human Services

Kaushal Bodh (Grades 6–8)
Activity book – broad, exposure-based approach
• Students complete 9 projects across Grades 6–8 (3 per grade, one from each form of work).
• Example: Grade 7 includes projects like a Plant Nursery and a School Habitat Garden.
• Goal: wide, hands-on exposure rather than depth.

Kaushal Vikas (Grade 9 onward)
Textbook – moves from exposure to depth
• Students pick one vocation from each of the three forms of work in Grade 9.
• Builds actual competencies usable for real work, not just awareness.
• Designed with choice and flexibility as guiding principles.

Benefit for Students
• Practical, hands-on skill exposure alongside academics from an early age (Grade 6).
• Helps students discover aptitudes and interests across varied work types before choosing streams or careers.
• Builds real competencies (not just theory) by Grade 9, improving employability readiness.
• Reinforces respect for all forms of work and labour, supporting well-rounded, confident learners.
